Each year the African World Heritage Fund provides conservation grants to African State parties in order to support and implement activities which focus on improving the State of Conservation of World Heritage properties.
All counties or regions in Africa are eligible, but project activities are restricted to World Heritage Sites as declared by UNESCO. That is why proposals must definitely address challenges affecting the state of conservation of the heritage property in question.
All government institutions involved in the management and protection of World Heritage sites can apply for the AWHF Grant. However, the application must be approved by the Head/Director of the heritage institution or organization accompanied by a cover letter endorsing the project. Also note that the project itself has to implemented within the time frame of 12 months.
Please note that it is very important to provide an elaborate budget plan because the AWHF grant will only cover direct costs related to the project activities. Furthermore , the applicants should indicate the State Parties’ contribution to the project.
